Mumbai, October 28: Punjab National Bank (PNB) has warned customers that certain inactive, zero-balance accounts could be closed after November 10, 2026. The public sector lender has advised affected account holders to update their Know Your Customer (KYC) details and reactivate their accounts before the deadline to avoid disruption.
Why Closure?
PNB said the move aims to prevent the misuse of long-inactive accounts and reduce potential banking risks.
However, not every inactive account will face closure. The bank has specified two conditions that must be met.
Which Accounts?
Accounts may face closure if they have recorded no customer-initiated transactions or operations since September 30, 2023, and have a zero balance.
Both conditions must apply. Accounts that fail to meet either condition will not be covered by this closure exercise.
Under PNB guidelines, an account becomes inoperative when no customer-initiated transaction takes place for 24 consecutive months.
Such transactions may include financial activity, service requests, account enquiries and eligible KYC updates.
How To Reactivate?
Customers whose accounts face closure should visit their nearest PNB branch and complete the KYC process before November 10.
They may need to submit identity and address proof, such as a passport, voter ID or driving licence.

A PAN card or Form 60 and a written account activation request may also be required.
The bank may seek additional documents depending on its KYC requirements.
What Happens Next?
After verifying the submitted documents, PNB can restore the account to operative status.
Customers should check their account status and contact their branch if they are unsure whether their account is affected.
Customer Helpline
For assistance, customers can contact PNB through its toll-free helpline numbers, 1800-1800 and 1800-2021.
Account holders are advised to complete the required formalities promptly rather than waiting until the final deadline.
Disclaimer: Account closure and reactivation depend on PNB’s official rules. Customers should verify eligibility, deadlines and documentation directly with the bank.
