New Delhi: Punjab National Bank (PNB) has issued an important alert for customers who have not used their bank accounts for several years. The bank may close certain inactive accounts if customers fail to take the required action within the deadline.
The move applies only to accounts meeting specific conditions and does not mean that all inactive PNB accounts will automatically be closed.
Which PNB accounts could be closed?
According to the bank’s information, accounts that have seen no transactions for three years as of June 30, 2026, and have a zero balance have been identified.
Transactions can include deposits, withdrawals or other banking activities. Customers whose accounts have remained unused and have no money in them could come under the bank’s action.
PNB has taken the step to reduce risks associated with inactive accounts and prevent their possible misuse.
Complete KYC by September 13
Customers who want to continue using such accounts must visit their concerned PNB branch and submit the required Know Your Customer (KYC) documents on or before September 13, 2026.
After completing the required KYC process, eligible accounts can be reactivated.
Customers with accounts that have remained unused for a long period should not wait until the deadline. They can contact their PNB branch to check whether their account falls under the identified category.
What should customers do?
Customers should first check their account status with their concerned branch. If the account has been identified as inactive, they should submit the necessary KYC documents within the specified deadline.
Customers facing difficulties can also approach their nearest PNB branch for assistance. The bank has provided toll-free numbers 1800-1800 and 1800-2021 for customer support.
Importantly, the alert does not apply to every PNB account holder. It specifically covers accounts that meet the stated inactivity and zero-balance conditions.
