Bikaner: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated SJVN’s 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project from Pachpadra in Rajasthan. The project is a major step towards increasing India’s renewable energy capacity and supporting the country’s clean energy goals. The inauguration took place in the presence of senior Union ministers, Rajasthan government leaders and officials from SJVN.
₹5,492 Crore Investment in Clean Energy
The solar project has been developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a subsidiary of SJVN, with an investment of around ₹5,492 crore. Spread across nearly 5,000 acres in Bikaner, it is India’s largest single-location EPC solar project under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category.
The project showcases India’s growing ability to build large renewable energy projects using locally manufactured equipment.
Power Supply for Three States
The plant is expected to generate around 2,454.84 million units of electricity in its first year. Over its planned 25-year life, it is expected to produce about 56,482.14 million units of clean power.
The electricity generated will be supplied to Rajasthan (500 MW), Uttarakhand (200 MW), and Jammu & Kashmir (300 MW). This will strengthen power supply and help reduce dependence on conventional energy sources.
Boost to Environment and Local Economy
The project is expected to reduce nearly 2.79 billion kilograms of carbon emissions during its lifetime. It has used around 24.22 lakh domestically manufactured solar modules and nearly 175 crore indigenous solar cells, supporting the government’s Make in India initiative.
During construction, the project created over 2,000 direct and indirect jobs. It also helped improve roads, transmission systems and other infrastructure in the Bikaner region, contributing to local economic development.
SJVN Expands Renewable Energy Portfolio
SJVN currently has an installed power generation capacity of 4,196.5 MW. The commissioning of the Bikaner Solar Project further strengthens the company’s renewable energy portfolio and supports India’s long-term vision of achieving a sustainable and energy-secure future.
