State-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) have reduced the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders by more than ₹200 across major cities, offering significant relief to restaurants, hotels, caterers and other commercial users. The revised prices came into effect on August 1.
In Delhi, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has been cut by ₹202. In Kolkata, the reduction is even steeper at ₹209, bringing the revised retail price to ₹2,872.50 per cylinder.
The latest revision is expected to lower operating costs for businesses that rely heavily on commercial LPG for cooking and food preparation.
No Change For Households
While commercial users have received a substantial price cut, there is no change in the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder used by households.
The government has kept domestic cooking gas prices unchanged, ensuring stability for household consumers while extending relief only to commercial establishments.
Second Consecutive Cut
This is the second straight monthly reduction in commercial LPG prices. On July 1, OMCs had reduced the price of 19-kg commercial cylinders by up to ₹183.50 across major cities.
The latest reduction follows a period of repeated price hikes that were triggered by higher global energy prices and supply concerns arising from geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
Supply Situation Improves
The government had earlier relaxed supply restrictions for commercial and industrial LPG consumers after fuel availability improved.
It restored 50% of supplies to customers whose allocations had previously been suspended to prioritise domestic household demand during the peak of supply disruptions.
During the conflict, the government invoked provisions under the Essential Commodities Act to ensure C3-C4 hydrocarbon streams were diverted exclusively for LPG production instead of petrochemical use.
Authorities have also directed OMCs to maintain comprehensive data on commercial and industrial LPG consumers to improve supply planning and distribution efficiency in the future.
