Mumbai: India’s gem and jewellery exports maintained their growth momentum in August 2026, with gross shipments rising 12.52% year-on-year to ₹21,945.87 crore, according to the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
The performance was supported by growing overseas demand for value-added jewellery, even as exports of cut and polished diamonds remained under pressure in value terms.
Studded Gold Jewellery Shines
Studded gold jewellery emerged as a major growth driver during August. Exports surged 64.96% to $642.85 million, supported by demand from markets including the US, UAE, Hong Kong, UK and France.
GJEPC said the shift towards value-added products was significant because more diamonds were being incorporated into finished jewellery in India, helping generate greater value across the domestic manufacturing chain.
Cut and polished diamond export volumes also improved, rising to 13.36 lakh carats in August 2026 from 12.94 lakh carats in the corresponding month last year.
GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali said the performance reflected the resilience and adaptability of India’s gem and jewellery industry.
April-August Performance Mixed
During April-August 2026, exports of plain and studded gold jewellery together increased 7% to ₹47,853.03 crore.
However, performance varied considerably across individual categories. Plain gold jewellery exports declined 11.44%, while studded gold jewellery shipments increased 26.73% during the five-month period.

Cut and polished diamond exports declined 7.38%, highlighting continued pressure on one of India’s traditionally important jewellery export categories.
Other segments recorded stronger growth. Silver jewellery exports jumped 35.57%, while platinum jewellery exports increased 19.67% to ₹953.36 crore.
Exports of polished lab-grown diamonds also improved, rising 11.76% to ₹5,076.61 crore during April-August.
Coloured gemstone exports, however, declined 1.92% during the same period.
The latest figures indicate a gradual shift in India’s export mix towards finished and value-added jewellery as manufacturers seek stronger demand across key international markets.
