UP Power Bills To Fall 7.93%, Consumers Get Rs 604 Crore Relief

Electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh set to receive lower power bills in September after a 7.93% FPPAS reduction.

Lucknow: Electricity consumers across Uttar Pradesh are set to get relief in September, with power bills expected to decline by 7.93 per cent following a reduction in the Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS).

The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation has issued an order implementing the reduction for September.

Consumers To Save Rs 604 Crore

The 7.93 per cent reduction is expected to provide a combined benefit of around Rs 604 crore to electricity consumers across the state.

The adjustment will directly reflect in consumers’ electricity bills for September.

The latest reduction is significantly higher than the relief provided during the previous two months.

Third Straight Month Of Relief

Electricity consumers received a 4.43 per cent reduction through the FPPAS mechanism in July.

The relief continued in August, when the adjustment was lowered by 2.92 per cent.

For September, the reduction has now increased to 7.93 per cent, providing greater relief to households and other eligible electricity consumers.

What Is FPPAS?

The Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge is a mechanism through which changes in the cost of purchasing electricity and fuel are periodically reflected in consumers’ power bills.

A reduction in the applicable adjustment lowers the amount consumers have to pay, while an increase can push electricity bills higher.

Regulator Issues Clear Guidelines

The electricity regulatory commission has also issued clear directions regarding the calculation of FPPAS.

According to the guidelines, the adjustment should be calculated based only on the actual electricity purchase cost for the relevant period and permissible transmission charges.

Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumers Council Chairman Awadhesh Kumar Verma said the September reduction would directly benefit consumers through lower bills.

The council has stressed that strict adherence to the regulator’s calculation methodology is necessary to ensure consumers receive the full benefit of reductions in electricity purchase costs.

The September adjustment provides another round of relief after reductions in both July and August.
