New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday welcomed a series of major Cabinet decisions covering agriculture, sports, energy and clean power initiatives. He said the approvals reflected the government’s commitment to improving farmers’ welfare, strengthening sports infrastructure and accelerating India’s journey towards self-reliance.
The Union Cabinet approved the extension of the PM-KISAN scheme for another five years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The programme carries an outlay of more than ₹3.15 lakh crore and will continue providing income support to eligible farmers across the country.
The Prime Minister said the decision would help farmers meet expenses related to seeds, fertilisers and other farming requirements while improving their financial condition nationwide today.
Support For Farmers
In a post on X, Modi said the government remained committed to the prosperity and empowerment of farmers across India. He described the extension of the PM-KISAN scheme as another important step towards strengthening rural incomes and supporting agricultural growth.
The scheme has become one of the government’s flagship welfare programmes, providing direct financial assistance to millions of farming families throughout the country every year.
Sports And Energy
The Cabinet also approved the expansion of the Khelo India Scheme and increased funding for the Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSFs).
Together, the two initiatives have received a combined allocation of ₹36,441 crore for the next five years.
According to the Prime Minister, enhanced funding will provide young athletes with better coaching, modern sporting facilities and greater opportunities to develop their skills successfully.
The Cabinet also cleared the ‘Samudra Manthan’ National Offshore Exploration Scheme, with an outlay of ₹84,084 crore until 2030-31.
Modi said the programme would strengthen India’s energy security by combining investment, advanced technology, skilled manpower and modern infrastructure. He added that the initiative would also support the goals of Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Clean Energy Focus
Another important decision was the approval of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana (PM-SSY) with an outlay of ₹5,070 crore.
The scheme will develop floating solar photovoltaic projects with energy storage systems on reservoirs and inland water bodies across states and Union Territories. The Prime Minister said it would expand clean-energy capacity while helping reduce carbon dioxide emissions across the country.
