New Delhi: Reliance Jio is setting its sights on global markets after completing 10 years of commercial operations in India, with plans to take its homegrown technologies across connectivity, digital services, enterprise solutions and artificial intelligence (AI) overseas.
In a letter to employees marking Jio’s 10th anniversary, Jio Platforms Managing Director and Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani said the company has helped build the foundation of Digital India at an unprecedented scale.
Ambani said Jio has evolved beyond being a telecom company and is now developing original technology in India.
Jio Looks Beyond Indian Market
The next opportunity, he said, is to make technology accessible at scale, take these solutions global and strengthen India’s position as a technology creator for the world.
Jio commercially launched its mobile services on September 5, 2016, through Reliance Jio Infocomm. Its entry disrupted the Indian telecom market by offering free voice calls and affordable mobile data.
Subscriber Base Crosses 533 Million
Jio’s rapid expansion saw it cross 50 million subscribers within 83 days of its commercial launch and 100 million customers in less than six months.
As of June 30, 2026, Reliance Jio had 533.3 million customers, making it one of the world’s largest telecom operators by subscriber base.
The company is also among the biggest data operators globally, handling more than 23 exabytes of data traffic every month.
Over the past decade, Jio has recorded net subscriber additions of nearly 500 million, according to the company.

AI, Enterprise Tech in Focus
Jio’s ambitions have expanded from telecom connectivity into digital platforms, enterprise technology and AI solutions.
Ambani credited Jio’s growth to its teams, saying employees consistently challenged established practices, developed new products and kept customers at the centre of the company’s strategy.
The global expansion push marks Jio’s next phase as it looks to export made-in-India technology and establish a wider presence in international digital markets.
